Introducing w/ Duchess Says, Miracle and Colorist
December does have its dark moments indeed. To end 2011 with a bang, we still have an ace up our sleeve with Duchess Says, Miracle and Colorist.
Duchess Says from Montreal, Canada is an eager representative of the “moog rock” genre. The band’s second album, In a Fung Day T, boasts strong images, and ritual ecstasy on stage is clearly a trademark of the genre. This fact might make it sound a tad religious. In fact, the four-piece band even claims to be part of the Church of Budgerigars worshipping the Duchess (or spiritual budgie) with the band simply acting as a medium. Well, at least the band’s influences are of the mundane kind and can be described in this world’s vocabulary: noisy new wave, psychedelic and punk. Epiphanies during shows might be included.
Steve Moore and Daniel O’Sullivan find their inspiration in similar genres. Their project Miracle comes with spherical vocals and edgy electronics of the dark wave, psychedelic and electro pop kind (as heard on their Visitors EP).
Colorist, on the other hand, draw on Steve Reich’s concept of “muic as a gradual process” using electrifying ukuleles, abstract drum sounds, droning deep techno patterns, spherical synth modulations, and out of this world vocals. Karrera Klub and Trashpop will cater for all your dancing needs before, in between and after the gigs.
Introducing takes place on 16th December at Berlin’s Magnet/Comet Club. Tickets are available at all well-known ticket shops.
